  1. In a medium sauce pan combine sugar, corn syrup, water, food coloring and oil.
  2. Turn to medium high heat and let the candy mixture come to a boil. (Use a candy thermometer to keep track of temperature)
  3. While the candy is coming up to temperature, lightly grease a baking sheet with shortening or butter (this will prevent the apples from sticking)
  4. Also make sure you have stuck a candy apple stick into the top of each apple.
  5. When the candy reaches 302 degrees F remove from the heat and begin dipping your apples.
  6. Make sure you work quickly or the candy will harden.
  7. Allow the excess candy to drip off for a few seconds, otherwise you apples will have huge candy “feet”.
  8. Allow the apples to dry (approximately 5 minutes).
  9. Wrap each apple with plastic wrap and store at room temperature.
